-Expressways: Austrian expressways (Autobahnen) require a vignette (toll sticker) for vehicles, which can be purchased for various durations.
-Speed Limits: The speed limit is 31 mph (50 km/h) within urban areas, 62 mph (100 km/h) outside urban areas, and 80 mph (130 km/h) on highways.
-Passing: Passing in the right lane is not allowed. Use the left lane to pass and return to the right lane when it is safe.
-Turning on red: Generally, making a right turn on red is prohibited unless otherwise indicated by a sign.
-Mountain passes: Key mountain passes in Austria include the Grossglockner Pass along the Grossglockner High Alpine Road, the Reschen Pass, and the Gerlos Pass.

Good to know when renting in Austria
The minimum age for a car rental is 18, although some car categories may have a higher minimum age. A young driver surcharge applies to those under 25.
All renters will need a valid driver’s license and an ID or passport. If your license uses a non-Roman alphabet like Cyrillic or Arabic, you will also need an international driving permit.
